SUSTAINABLE SLUM UPGRADING IN URBAN AREA

International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) was established in Holland in the 1950s. The CIB Working Commission W110 Informal Settlements and Affordable Housing for Indonesia is based in the Department of Architecture ITS. The first conference was conducted in ITS 2005 during the celebration of 45 years of ITS and 40 years of Department of Architecture. The second Conference and Meeting was conducted in February 2007 by Research and Development Board of Central Java Province in Semarang. Furthermore, this conference in UNS will become the third conference of CIB ISAH Network.

The topic of Sustainable Slum Upgrading in the Urban Area is appointed by the several backgrounds. Firstly, the UN Millennium Development Goals 2015 stated that one of stressing is the 7th goal : Ensure environmental sustainability with the strategy of achieving significant improvement in lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers by 2020. The goal inspired the government of the third world countries to clearance the slum area. In Surakarta City, the major of Surakarta, Ir. Joko Widodo has declared for Slum Clearance of Surakarta by 2010. This is the extremely hard effort to achieve.

The conference on Sustainable Slum Upgrading in Urban Area, which will be conducted in University of Sebelas Maret Surakarta is intended to explore and sharing knowledge, information, concept and strategy in improvement of lives for slum dwellers.

Conference participants are welcome on any subject within the realm of Sustainable Slum Upgrading in Urban Area. Sub topics related to:

1. Sustainable concept of planning, housing policy and ap

proach for slum upgrading in urban area

2. Stakeholders role in transfer of information, technology and empowerment to the community to improve lives in urban slum area

3. Sustainable financing and economic development for slum communities in the urban area

OBJECTIVES

1. Socialization and information of research, development and innovation related to the problems of sustainable slum upgrading in urban area

2. Enhancing communication and networking of stakeholder in housing and human settlements development especially related to sustainable slum upgrading in urban area.

3. Exploration and sharing of knowledge and sustainable approach and efforts in alleviation of problems of slum upgrading in the urban area in Indonesia
